Lisbon eats well. Ridiculously well. Between the tiled tascas, the natural-wine rooms and the fish grilled right on the dock, the hard part is not finding a good meal, it is choosing. So we made it easy. Here is the D'Vines hit list: the Lisbon tables we actually send our friends to, sorted by the kind of night you are having.

For a moody date night
Bar Alimentar, Príncipe Real
Italian-Portuguese share plates in a room built for candlelight. Order the bacalhau cannoli and the octopus fregola, split a bottle, and stay late.
Parra Wine Bistro, Santos
Pink marble, red accents and a wine list that does the talking. The tartare on brioche with cured egg and anchovy is the move.
Modern tascas doing it right
O Velho Eurico, Baixa
Like dining in a ship's hull run by very friendly pirates. Loud, cheap, brilliant. Go for the chambão beef sandwich.
Taberna Sal Grosso, Alfama
Small plates with a global wink and zero pretension. Fried baby squid, tuna pica-pau, and whatever is chalked on the board that night.
Polémico, Campo de Ourique
A cleaner, more contemporary take on the Portuguese bistro. Beef tartare to start, baked seafood rice to share.
Waterfront classics worth the trek
Ponto Final, Cacilhas
Cross the river for the canary-yellow tables perched right over the water. Yes, it is on every feed. The fish rice earns it.
Último Porto, Santos docks
The running joke is best fish, worst view. Tucked behind the port, grilling some of the finest fish in the city. Get the clams with garlic and coriander.
Ramiro, Intendente
The seafood institution. Loud, buzzy, not cheap, but the carabineiro prawns are a Lisbon rite of passage.
Worth the queue
Taberna do Mar, Graça
A tiny Portuguese-Japanese counter. The grilled sardine nigiri is a love letter to Lisbon in one bite, and very on-brand for us. 🐟
Lupita, Cais do Sodré
Naturally leavened pizza, clean chaos, fast turnover. Pepperoni with spicy honey, thank us later.
